STFU, Conservatives: US Rep Walter Jones (R-NC) introduces bill that would allow churches to engage "in partisan politicking," such as...

seriouslyamerica:

abaldwin360:

Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) appeared today on Truth that Transforms, the flagship radio program of Truth in Action Ministries, to push his Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act, which the Interfaith Alliance notes would allow houses of…

This rule is also not just restricted to churches, but to ALL 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit organizations. You are allowed to engage in some level of advocacy (as long as it is not your primary activity, and there is no hard rule on what percentage that entails), but you have to keep out of partisan politics. Is this guy allowing other nonprofits to the same in his bill, or are churches just *special*?

Ugh… asking the parents for money is terrible. They are extremely generous, and I rarely ask, but I feel like such a failure as an adult. I am almost independent of them, in that I pay for the vast majority of my own bills and school (the latter through loans), but between semesters/summers, I tend to need supplemental income. I have spent more money than usual recently, and some of the purchases may be considered less than necessary, but it’s not like I was dining on lobster and Moet every night for a month. I was also expecting more income than I ended up getting, since I had to take a whole week off of work to study for finals. Ugh, grad school problems.

COLS Spoilers! My thoughts instantly after finishing the book!

theramblingsofasemiblindartist:

I have all these feelings! It was fantastic! Plenty of action scenes mixed in with more dramatic scenes. Great! Also, am I the only one who thinks that Brother Zachariah is Jem? I feel like some serious hints in that direction were dropped. If that’s the case, I don’t know whether to be happy or sad for him.

I don’t know what else to say. I just can’t contain all these feels!!!

WOAH. I NEVER THOUGHT OF ZACHARIA AS JEM. WOW. you, my friend, are very smart.

Well, right now I can’t remember everything specifically, but he says that Jace is a Herondale at least twice, ascribing certain characteristics to him for being part of that family. Then in the epilogue he tells Clary there were two people in his past that he would have died for. It would make more sense for him to be Jem than Will, I think, but now I want to know!

Also, thank you :)

I went through school, I worked my way through, it took me seven years, I never borrowed a dime of money. He borrowed a little bit because we both were totally on our own when we went to college, totally. […] I have very little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt because there’s no reason for that. We live in an opportunity society and people are forgetting that. I remind folks all the time that the Declaration of Independence says “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” You don’t have it dumped in your lap.

Today in “the times, they have a-changed since you went to college”: Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) “has very little tolerance” for all those crazy kids going into debt for higher education. Because back in HER day, she believed in the Constitution and didn’t borrow money for school. Or something. -Jess (via stfuconservatives)

Back in HER day, it cost less than $500 for a full semester of college, including books. I know this because that is how little my mother (who graduated in the early 80s) paid to attend college, and I know it was cheaper than that when Rep. Foxx attended college. Good luck getting $500 to pay for one semester’s worth of books, let alone make a dent in tuition. I say this having attended a state school for undergrad and currently attending a state school for my Masters. Fuck her.

Last chance! Pro-Choice Texans! Help me raise funds for Lilith Fund!

I am raising money for the National Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon, which, if you are not familiar with the event, helps provide access to abortion services for low-income women. My team, Vag of Courage, is helping raise money for Lilith Fund, which operates in Austin, but serves all of Texas. They are almost entirely volunteer-run, and the majority of the organization’s money goes to operate this program. They do really good work to help women in need, particularly in a state that continually tries to make a difficult choice even more so.

If you wish to make a donation (no matter how small), please follow the link to my participant page, which allows you donate directly online. The event page also contains more information about the event and Lilith Fund in general. Let me know if you have any questions, and I would greatly appreciate any help that you could provide, even if it simply letting others know about the event! Thanks!

I hate waiting after an interview. I want this internship soooooo baaaaaad, but you can’t really talk about how desperate you are during an interview. I also hate how you start rehashing every word that came out of your mouth during it to see if you fucked it up, and it drives me nuts. I just want to have something settled for the summer, so that I can plan accordingly and get me some funding, because I will need it. Blargh, the end of the week seem so far away now. At least the interview portion is over.

Seeing The Hunger Games this afternoon (before school is out) to escape the tween/teen crowd. I am not having people shout Team Gale/Peeta in my ear throughout the movie. Anyway, I am way too excited to keep my composure throughout class this morning.
